Proxy Tempest partners with OSC!

It has been since the creation of Proxy Tempest (oh, about two weeks ago…) the attitude of our staff that we should bring the best to Starcraft 2. By partnering with OSC, we’ll be assigning OSC points to players competing in the Fleet Finale. The Fleet Finale is a 16 player tournament held at the end of each month. Players are invited based on their success in the month’s previous qualifiers. The top 4 finishers in each weekly qualifier are seeded into the Fleet Finale.

The point distribution for players is as follows:

  • 1st: 80 OSC Points
  • 2nd: 50 OSC Points
  • 3rd/4th: 20 OSC Points
  • 5th-8th: 5 OSC Points
  • 9th-16th: 2.5 OSC Points

North America Open #1 Results

The North America Open was a hit, thanks to Redditors and Twitch memers alike. 35 players signed up to compete, with the vast majority masters or above. One interesting character was Lazy, the only platinum player visible in the see of blue and green borders.

With well known players such as Sacrilege, MoWjAhEeD, HousePeddler, sqrtofnegone, and GAMETIME, it was expected one of these players would bring home the gold.

Eyes would settle upon however, the platinum player who had wondered into the tournament, seemingly unphased by his competition. Lazy won his first match against Aimbot812 with a 2-1 scoreline, and convincingly won his second round against gnarwhal. The two round victories would place him in the quarterfinals against a tough opponent, IntegrityBuildings.

The quarterfinals would be an interesting shake-up, as we saw our first official forfeit out of JetSC, who played against GAMETIME, a well established player. This victory would place GAMETIME against 2DSparrow in the semifinals. At the top of the bracket, Lazy managed to be out IntegrityBuildings to move on to the semis.

So far, all of our players had won in stellar fashion, and the trend seemed to be continuing. The number of 2-0 victories greatly outweighed the number of 2-1 wins and even the semifinals proved similar. Lazy beat our ZuckFerg to move on to the finals, and 2DSparrow took out GAMETIME, the actual favorite to win the tournament, 2-1.

The one-sided but entertaining finals match took place in the late hours of the evening, seeing both players tired, but ready to take home the trophy.

“Sticks and stones…

…may break my bones, but words will never hurt me!” That’s the taunts in the Twitch stream seen just before the first match between WordsSometimes and Storrm began. And judging by Storrm’s solid performance throughout the tournament, it surely looked that way. He crushed his opponent Nano in the semifinals 2-0 to make it the the final match. WordsSometimes, a player not previously casted, has only been playing since the end of Heart of the Swarm. But his consistent practice and passion for the game paid off and he was able to take the finals with a clean 3-0.

During his interview, Words said he would be practicing furiously as Dreamhack Austin approaches. The young player will be competing against some of the toughest competition in the Lonestar State, but hopes to perform well. When asked which pro he would most like to play against, he admitted, “I’d like to play Polt. I feel like he could give me a run for my money.”

Congratulations WordsSometimes on your victory, and we hope to see you competing again soon!
